An esteemed Russian general has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.
The attack happened on Monday morning when an IED concealed beneath a vehicle detonated, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
The committee mentioned that one possible explanation suggests the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has remained silent.
Site of the Attack
Officials have been dispatched to the location, which is said to be in a southerly district of the metropolis.
Accounts indicate the detonation occurred in a vehicle lot adjacent to a residential building.
Series of Assaults
Since the onset of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.
This new event echoes other notable incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a explosive hidden on a scooter was detonated remotely.
While a Ukrainian source previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are not publicly admitted as a matter of standard practice.
The war has increasingly seen shadowy operations reaching into the streets of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death continues to be ongoing.
