Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
