Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
