Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it fails to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers contributing to Lullaby encompasses a group of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The song blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from mid-December.
