Photographs of Fuerte Tiuna, a massive military complex in which key officials live, depict blasted structures and burned, smouldering cars.
The location was this compound that Maduro and his wife were captured, Venezuelan ruling party leader a party official indicated.
Just Moments Earlier - Trump Gives the Command
The mission commenced with reports of explosions at approximately 2 AM in Caracas (6:00 Greenwich Mean Time).
American forces cut power to the city, Trump has since said, calling it "dark and deadly".
The aim was to disable Venezuela's air defences and open up the path for American assault helicopters to reach the target.
Our evaluation was that we had maintained completely the advantage of surprise," a senior military officer remarked.
Targeted sites encompassed the compound, a port and an airfield. Images depict Fuerte Tiuna engulfed in flames, with massive fires visible for miles.
Venezuelans have described the way US military helicopters flew at low altitude over Caracas, en route to the military base.
Some of the helicopters came under fire, however were still able to fly, military leaders stated.
"It was a lot of gunfire," the President noted.
A Rapid Ground Assault
After landing, troops from an elite special operations unit, sprang into action.
They gained access to the compound at 02:01 Caracas time, and the Maduros surrendered without resistance, as per reports.
But, further information emerged. The Maduros attempted to flee into a safe place, referred to as a heavily fortified bunker.
The secure room was constructed of steel, and he wasn't able to make it inside because our guys were too quick.
It featured an extremely heavy entryway, a very heavy door," the President informed the media. "He made it the entrance. He could not to close it."
However, even assuming they had succeeded to enter the safe room, troops could have blown it open in about "under a minute."
From the Capital to New York City
Currently under American detention, the couple were transported some 2,100 miles, to Manhattan.
They were taken by air out of Caracas by helicopter, and taken to the USS Iwo Jima, a naval vessel positioned in the Caribbean. The operation was completed "over the water" by 04:29.
Aboard the vessel that an iconic image of the whole operation was captured - the president shackled, wearing ear protectors and a type of blindfold resembling opaque glasses.
From the USS Iwo Jima, his initial stop was to the US Navy base at Guantánamo Bay.
The Maduros then traveled on a government plane to Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York, before a final helicopter transfer to Manhattan.
Confronting Justice on US Territory
That same day, a video emerged depicting the detainee inside the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) headquarters in New York.
The couple are now detained at a federal holding facility within the city.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit drug-related terrorism and import cocaine, owning machine guns and explosives, and conspiracy to acquire such weapons and destructive devices to use against America.
They are set to encounter the full wrath of the US legal system on American soil in American courts," the Attorney General declared.
