Helen Mirren To Be Honored With Globes' Cecil B DeMille Award.
The distinguished British actress Mirren, already holder of an Academy Award, multiple Bafta awards, Golden Globe wins, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, is set to earn an additional esteemed prize to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe lifetime honor.
Award Event
The actress, octogenarian, who was honored as a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will pick up the award at an event January 8, three days before the main Golden Globes occur, within a program described by the organization as Golden Eve.
Additionally featuring the awarding of the Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for television achievement, the recipient of which remains unannounced. Previous recipients featured Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.
“Mirren stands as an unstoppable talent, and her professional journey is nothing short of extraordinary,” remarked Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “Her brilliant portrayals and dedication to acting constantly motivate countless performers and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”
Professional Journey
Helen Mirren gained prominence in the 1970s with key roles on stage in the West End of London and with the RSC as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.
In the 1990s, her starring role in the crime series Prime Suspect expanded her audience further. Other important films comprise Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.
She received an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a character she reprised back in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings between the queen and the PM the former PM, and for which Mirren won a Tony in 2015.

- Upcoming, Mirren will be seen in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.
Globes nominations will be declared December 8, featuring the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
