Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Film Launch Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who jumped over a barricade and reached for Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The man, aged 26, was sentenced to more than a week in detention for disrupting public order and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities stated to local media.
The man shoved past photographers and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on 13 November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at the pop star's Australian show in this summer.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has mentioned suffering from PTSD after a terrorist bombing at her concert in the UK city in several years ago took the lives of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the court heard he had attempted to intrude on the red carpet event twice, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a follow-up try to cross the barriers. Protection personnel prevented him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared video clips expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Authorities took him into custody the subsequent day and accused him with causing a disturbance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was quoted by media reports as remarking that Wen was "attention seeking", commenting that he was incorrect to believe he would not experience repercussions.
The actress has not addressed the incident.
Cynthia Erivo discussed the event to a media outlet, saying that she "just wanted to ensure my co-star was safe."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you can't predict with such situations, and I wanted to confirm that she was alright. That was my immediate response," she said.
