Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following leading insulting songs aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year career with Leeds was ended amicably in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Career Challenges
