Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they cannot be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight home loss of 2025.
However the main talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper gave away the ball well outside his box.
He ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
But, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario once more, some Spurs fans jeered him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.
One of those booing episodes truly angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright booing after the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally preventable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He's a great team player, he's a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive score."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match
Italian international the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He stated after the match that he had to accept the criticism.
"That score was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for that," he said.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in calmness and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor loss and it's hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple goal for Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.
10 moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me none of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional time. Then it was all about trying to achieve the right contact and get it on target. I had a good feeling, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home woes.
This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the close of the year.
Just a single of those wins have occurred since Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."
Spurs have been defeated in 4 straight at home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got take the criticism," Murphy said. "He's accepted a prestigious role at a huge football club with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
