The English Team to Start the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward passage for a competition taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to stage the England side for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, in the event of winning their group, their last-16 tie would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Kickoff and Protest

The event was unveiled at an gathering in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host FAs were confronted as they approached the venue by around fifty activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were raised with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a game that will involve the Welsh team if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from next season, will appeal to households and help reach a more diverse set of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches staged at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Official Statement

“The event will be a tournament for the fans and a showcase of everything we love about the sport – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million tickets, a unprecedented number for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
